New Year News from OSGUG

Burns Supper

There will be an OSGUG Burns Supper held at Coseners House in Abingdon on Saturday 4th February 2017. Alistair Mills will propose the Immortal Memory and Ken McClements will give us Tam O’Shanter. There will also be musical entertainment from The McLevys and Brian Syme and maybe some other contributions. Directions can be found on the calendar page.

Annual General Meeting of the Society

The 2017 Annual General Meeting of OSGUG is scheduled for Saturday 4th March at the Crown and Thistle Hotel in Abingdon. Directions to the pub are given in the calendar. We will meet from 1200 with the AGM starting at 1230. Those who wish can stay on for lunch afterwards, and we have a private room. Please send email before Friday 3rd if you will attend.

Last Tuesday Club

We have held a number of these during autumn with attendance between 6 and 12. We will schedule them every month where possible, even when close to other events as some people may be able to attend one and not the other. Suggestions for venues are always welcome.

Membership Standing Orders

We recently changed the OSGUG bank account and since unlike a personal account we cannot just transfer existing standing orders we ask you to issue new instructions to your bank. To those who have already done this – thank you. To those who haven’t yet, please try to do this before the new membership year on 1st March. The form is here http://bit.ly/OSGUG-SO-Mandate .

Those who do not pay by standing order might like to take this opportunity to start.

Visit to JET

We are planning a visit to the Culham Lab near Abingdon on Saturday 20th May. There we will see the JET and MAST plasma fusion experiments. This will be followed by a pub lunch nearby. Please put the date in your diaries.

Need help with your computers?

Alistair Mills has volunteered to help people with problems with their computers. He has noticed that many people have problems, but they are reluctant to seek help, as help can be very expensive and not necessarily efficacious. So, he is offering free help. He will come to see you, and your computers, at home; he will either fix your problem right away or discuss how to deal with it. Alistair is very experienced in this kind of work and is knowledgeable about most of the products which people have at home such as Microsoft Windows, Apple Mac, iPad, Android, Wifi, Printers, Routers and so on. He is offering this free service to members of OSGUG. If people wish to pay for it, then they can pay OSGUG and the money will be given to the Chancellor’s Fund. If you want help, email Alistair at Alistair.Mills@btinternet.com.
