Spring News from OSGUG.
Annual General Meeting of the Society
The 2016 Annual General Meeting of OSGUG is scheduled for Saturday 12th March at the Kings Head and Bell in Abingdon. Directions to the pub are given at the end of this newsletter. We will meet from 1200 with the AGM starting at 1230. Those who wish can stay on for lunch afterwards, we have a private room. Alistair Mills is standing down as Treasurer this year so we plan to elect a new one. I am sure you will join me in thanking Alistair for the many years of time, effort and ideas he has given to OSGUG. Please let me know by Friday 11th if you will attend by email.
Balliol Lunch and Talk
On Saturday 7th May we are invited to Balliol College in Broad Street, Oxford by our new Patron Sir Drummond Bone who will talk to us on ‘The History of the Snell Exhibition’. This is a prestigious award which funds Glasgow graduates to study at Balliol. This will be followed by lunch in the historic Balliol Dining Hall. The cost will be £15 per head and includes lunch. Tickets are available from Margaret Stevenson by email.
Burns Supper
This year’s Burns Supper was an enjoyable event. We had fifty participants and we heard the Immortal Memory from Dr Norman Stephen and Scottish music on the harp from Fraya Thomsen. Thanks to members Ken McClements for the Address to the Haggis and Alistair Mills and Margaret Stevenson for the Toast To, and the Reply From, The Lassies. Thanks are due to Gordon for the photographs which can be seen on the web site.
Oliver Ashford
Our oldest surviving member Oliver Ashford passed away recently. Oliver and his wife Lilias were founder members of OSGUG. Oliver turned 100 last October. We send our regards to his family.
Last Tuesday Club
On March 29th, LTC will meet at the Greyhound pub in Besselsleigh. This is on the A420 on the 66 bus route from Oxford to Swindon. Contact me if you plan to come.

There are several buses from Oxford but the X3/X13 are the most convenient, dropping off in the High Street close to the Market Place and the pub.
There is no car park at the pub itself but there are several car parks in Abingdon http://bit.ly/1WCiDW9. Those who have attended the Burns Supper at Coseners’ will have driven past a couple of car parks after they left the main road. Car parks in Abingdon are free for the first two hours (hence the £0 displayed on the map above) but you must take a ticket. AGM plus lunch plus chatting may go over two hours.
